leaving home at 16, he is in and out of various hospitality jobs until his early adulthood.
after a brief stint in the army, and spending time overseas, in his early twenties, thomas returns - though still with no real job prospects lined up.
he winds up as a concierge in an esteemed 5* hotel (the downton hotel & spa), and eventually works his way up to assistant manager.(alternative plot-point: after his time working in the hotel industry, he can become a PA for your muse)

historical crossover au. any thread that takes place in a time before thomas' canon lifetime (anything pre 1890). the details of what happens here are entirely flexible and changeable depending on the story we want to create. thomas is a very easy character to shift about in time - his story can translate to victorian, regency, even medieval. but, there are some basic facts that never change;
thomas still works in service, and either still works for, or has worked for the noble crawley family at the downton estate.

detroit: become human au. thomas is an old model AP android, designed with the express purpose of household management and providing general assistance to it’s human owners.
thomas has been one of several androids owned by the affluent crawley family for several years now, and is programmed to assist in cooking and serving dinner, managing appointments, routine cleaning, and generally taking care of the family he serves.
but he is out of date, with newer, better models being released, thomas is increasingly going out of fashion and is long overdue to be traded in for a more cost-effective upgrade. it’s a combination of the continuing monotony of his existence, coupled with the increasing fear of becoming obsolete, of being replaced, that trigger the glitches in his software - the beginnings of deviancy, as thomas struggles with fighting his programming.
